Back-to-School Shoe Give-away

Newark Area Welfare Committee’s shoe program has been active for many years. Many hundreds of pairs of shoes have been purchased for needy people in the past. We work with Christina School District nurses, local church people, and the State’s Hudson Center to identify children and adults who need shoes.

We recently worked with the Hudson Center as part of their back-to-school event. Parents requested 98 pairs of shoes for children returning to school this fall. We purchased the needed shoes at local stores and on-line. We then gave the shoes to Hudson for delivery to the parents. Some of the shoes are shown with Celeste Simmons, Director of Hudson Center’s DHSS unit.
