Holiday Food Event 2024

December 2024

In December 2024, Newark Area Welfare Committee provided approximately one week’s worth of groceries to 405 families, a total of 919 adults and children. A pop-up grocery store was erected at the Newark First Presbyterian Church where families selected their own foods. For homebound community members, groceries were packaged and delivered by NAWC volunteers. These families were vetted and referred to NAWC by Hudson State Services, Newark Housing Authority, Newark Senior Center Social Services, Holy Angels Hispanic Outreach and Christina School District Social Workers.

NAWC was able to provide both perishable and non-perishable foods, personal hygiene items, cold weather clothing accessories and toys through the generous support of local schools, churches and businesses as well as 100+ volunteers. Additionally, each family received grocery store gift card.

A HUGE thank you to our community contributors!
